My grandma’s from this huge Cajun family. She’s like one of twelve kids or something. They grew up in White Castle, way out on the bayou. She was actually going to become a nun, but then she met my grandfather. He was from an Italian family that ran a cigar shop in the Quarter. Grandma still speaks Cajun, but growing up in the city my dad never learned it. He could catch Grandma when she said a naughty word, but that’s about it...
